Welder, George Chulu
George Chulu has vast experience in welding, besides that he trains other welders in the similar field and he is a model to many Zambians. He wants to expand his welding business by making rope pumps and oxcarts.
George Chulu stopped making rope pumps.
Hastings and Steven drilled a private borehole for a customer in Mfuwe. The pump was produced by George Chulu.
Mr George Chulu made the pump that Hastings and Steven installed at their private customer from Katete which is about 86 kilometers from Chipata. The customer is happy that his pump is operative and professionally made.
George Chulu made the pump for farmer Stephen Tembo, his wife and their neighbours. Steven Zulu and Hastings Mbewe made a new borehole on top of the hill near to the house and far from the toilet from Stephen Tembo. Mrs. Tembo has difficulties walking and is very happy with this new water source. Since the pump is on top of the hill, is easy to irrigate his garden which is downhill.
George Chulu made the pump for beekeeper Chrispin Daka. Michael Soko, Edward Tembo and Moses Banda drilled a borehole at beekeeper Chrispin Daka. The first attempt failed, but the team did not give up and the second attempt was successful. They even made a ground water recharge system next to the borehole.
George Chulu made the pump for beeekeeper Bandson Tembo. Hastings Mbewe and Steven Zulu had to work during the night to complete the pump installation. Reason for that was that one of the pvc pipes had a slightly different dimension and had to be changed in town. But in the end everybody was happy and there was a lot of clean water.
George made a pump for Mr. Simbani.
George made his first six pumps as display models and stock. He sold two of them and made two new once immediately after selling them to replenish his stock. Good work George!
George made his first pump at his own workshop and the quality is good. At the front in the picture is his “golden model” which he made under supervision of the trainers and behind is his first -unpainted- copy.
During Jacana’s 3 weeks technical training for the selected entrepreneurs in the water sector George was a good time manager. He paid adequate attention to the instructors and could easily comprehend and grasp concepts. As a competent welder he successfully acquired skills in fabrication of the following technologies:
- Soil punch
- Bailer (Mzuzu type)
- EMAS pump
- Rope pump Model 1 and Model 4
