About Nathaniel Sakala
Nathaniel Sakala is married and has 8 children, 4 girls and 4 boys. He lives in Mumbi Chiefdom and is a very hardworking person and someone who has passion in his activities. Nathaniel Sakala started his vegetable garden in 2018 and since that time he was having problems with water during dry season.
In 2022 when Nathaniel heard about Jacana he wanted to join the project. He was invited for a business training. Nathaniel was one of the best performing people who attended the training and was picked as one of the people to be sponsored with a pump. The borehole was drilled and a pump was installed at his garden. Nathaniel wants to grow high value vegetables. Nathaniel Sakala is now happy with water as he has the chance to experiment on his 50×50 piece of land and find out what is the best for him to grow. When a vegetable grows well and brings enough money he expands the crops to a bigger field.

August 2024
Nathaniel Sakala was trained in Sustainable Organic Agriculture and Organic Vegetables Production. This was to help him to reduce on inputs at his garden. Nathaniel Sakala learned how to make organic pesticides and deep bed as this will help him to manage pest and also manage water in this climate change.
July 2024
Nathaniel Sakala was visited by Agro farmers from Chilima Village who wanted to learn how he is growing his vegetables in his garden as he has improved so much and were inspired to see his garden. Nathaniel Sakala also taught the agro farmers the importance of conserving water by having new techniques of farming. He taught them advantages of making deep beds in their gardens
May 2024
In May 2024, Nathaniel Sakala took advantage of the 40% and 60% and got a partially sponsored tank which will helps him to store water. He also bought another solar pump to boost water capacity.
After an upgrade to his garden with a water storage tank, he is now growing more valued crops. This time he has also grown lettuce, and the lettuce is doing very well.
Nathaniel Sakala also enjoys using Bocashi in his garden field, and his words were: “this Bocashi works great I did not know it can do miracles”. His friends in the project call him Mr. Bocashi.
April 2024
In April 2024, Nathaniel Sakala took part in the AFAS visitation program which was in the entire three districts: Lundazi, Chipata and Petauke, which encouraging each other and problem solving. Nathaniel Sakala was visited by in fellow farmers to see how he is progressing.
October 2023
Jacana field officer passed by Nathaniel Sakala to check if the Instruction of last month to mulch his vegetables was followed. He mulched his tomatoes
September 2023
Jacana field officer went to check the production of the high valued F1 tomatoes which he planted in March 2023 to see the result. Below is how the tomatoes where doing. And later he was advices to mulch his tomatoes.
August 2023
Nathaniel and his family made their own fertilizer. Jacana field officer guided the family in making Bocashi, which he practically learned at a previous workshop organized by Jacana. Bocashi will help him improve his soil fertility as his soil is in bad condition.
May 2023
In May 2023, after been sponsored with a borehole and a solar, Nathaniel Sakala took advantage of 40%-60% partly support and built himself a tank stand so he can put up a tank to help him store water.
March 2023
Nathaniel Sakala planted a high valued crop, he tried planting F1 tomato which he has never planted. This was to see how it will do at his garden, it’s his first time growing it.
October 2022
Nathaniel Sakala was visited by Jacana officer to help create a layout plan for 50×50 plots as part of the project of AFAS. As farmers are Changing “from Auto pilot to champion farmer”. This layout will act as a guide for experimenting with new farming methods and also different types of crops.
September 2022
Nathaniel Sakala was guided in land preparation, this was an essential exercise to be done for him to achieve good yield.
June 2022
Nathaniel Sakala attended a business training that focused on business, financial and marketing planning. In this training Nathaniel made a simple business plan, learned to prepare a business financial plan and also learned to do marketing for his produce, so that he can easily find customers to buy his produce.
